Port Huron, MI – Connie Studaker has been named Port Huron Hospital’s Employee of the Month for December. Studaker has been with the hospital for 28 years and is currently working in Health Information Services.

Studaker was recognized by her peers for consistently demonstrating the values of Port Huron Hospital. Those who nominated her stated “she always provides a WOW for the customer, is pleasant and good natured and attacks her work with a can-do attitude”.

This employee recognition is given to individuals who consistently live the values, mission and performance standards of Port Huron Hospital. Honorees are nominated by a co-worker, physician, volunteer and/or customer.

National Healing Corporation, an industry leader accounting for approximately 30 percent of the nation’s managed and outsourced wound healing centers, has recognized Port Huron Hospital Wound Healing Center with the Front Runner Award for maximizing its resources to meet the growing needs of its community.

Pam O'Hare was recognized as one of four national finalists for the Program Director of the Year Award. O'Hare is responsible for all aspects of Port Huron Hospital Wound Healing Center operation including ensuring quality patient care, recruiting and hiring, compliance with federal and state guidelines, budgeting and fiscal policies, and marketing and sales.

As a finalist for the Clinical Nurse Manager of the Year Award, Cathy Smart was also honored for her work integrating new therapies into care, training new personnel, reviewing and reporting on patient outcomes and ensuring quality of care.

The honors were bestowed during a three-day clinical symposium in Orlando, Fla., attended by 450 wound healing physicians and clinicians from around the country who participated in briefings on new treatment options that may bring additional advances in the care of chronic wounds. Port Huron Hospital Wound Healing Center reports patient outcomes to National Healing that has resulted in one of the most comprehensive databases for wound outcomes in the U.S. enabling the company to share its knowledge with wound care experts from around the world.

The center is part of National Healing’s nationwide network of wound care researchers and specialists. Patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in 30 days or more have access to highly specialized wound care including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. Patients may be referred by their physicians or make an appointment without any referral.

Port Huron Hospital’s website, www.porthuronhospital.org, has been nationally recognized with the Gold eHealthcare Leadership Award for its Physician Directory in the Hospitals with 200 Beds or Less classification. The recognition was announced at the Fifteenth Annual Healthcare Internet Conference held recently in Orlando, Florida.

This is the second eHealthcare Leadership Award that Port Huron Hospital has received. In 2010, it was recognized with a Silver Award for Best Overall Internet Site in the Hospitals with 200 Beds or Less classification. “This prestigious award confirms that our efforts to make information available to our community and patients are meeting our objectives,” says Leslie Boulier, digital marketing specialist at Port Huron Hospital. “Our physician directory is designed to provide information about the exceptional, highly skilled physicians who are on our medical staff.”

Awards were given in 13 different categories and winners were selected from nearly 1,200 entries from hospitals, health systems, medical practices and other health-based organizations from across the country. Levels of recognition within the categories included platinum, gold, silver and distinction designations.

Port Huron Hospital’s 23rd Annual Festival of Trees, “My Christmas Wish” will be held December 3rd and 4th at McMorran Place Arena in downtown Port Huron.

Hours of the festival are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m, Saturday; and 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 3 to 12. Children age two and under are admitted free. Funds from the annual Festival of Trees go towards children’s services at Port Huron Hospital.

The magical Black Tie optional Preview Party will be held from 7 to 11 p.m., Friday, December 2nd. With the twinkling lights of more than 50 beautifully decorated trees, participants will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, complimentary champagne and superb entertainment. Jody Ross Photography will be on hand to photograph participants in their evening finery. Cost for this annual fund-raising event is $75 per person. Reservations are required.
Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by Bob Evans will take place on Sunday, December 4th is sold out. Participants will enjoy a wonderful, full, hot breakfast and have children’s picture taken with Santa himself!

Volunteers needed for the 23rd Annual Festival of Trees

Volunteers are needed for Port Huron Hospital’s 23rd Annual Festival of Trees, “My Christmas Wish.” This annual fundraising event will be held December 3 & 4, 2011, at McMorran Place Arena in downtown Port Huron.

Hours of the festival are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday; and 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 3 to 12. Children age two and under are admitted free. This year’s Festival features a number of special events.

Volunteer Opportunities are available in the following areas:

Admissions—Sell and take admission tickets. Welcome visitors and direct to main display area.
Children’s Area—Several opportunities are available within the children’s area working directly with the children who attend the festival.
Costumed Characters—Requires walking around the arena in a costume for 15 minute intervals.
Raffles—Sell raffle tickets. Must be at least 18 years old.
Mrs. Claus—Greeting children (while seated).
Talking Tree—Stand behind the one way glass partition and speak into a microphone made to disguise your voice as you interact with the children around an animated tree.
Registration of Volunteers— Register volunteers as they enter the arena.
Volunteer Assistant—Assist the Volunteer Co-Chairs with a variety of tasks, provide relief for volunteers, light housekeeping of areas to assure a clean and pleasant appearance.

“What’s Cooking at the Market with Port Huron Hospital” this Saturday, August 20, will feature Port Huron Hospital Director of Dining Services Dave Straney as the chef and Vice President Doris Seidl as the host. Taping in front of a live audience takes place at 11 a.m., every Saturday, at Vantage Point.

Dave will be making three recipes: Crab Cake Chowder, Rosemary Skewers and Fresh Mozzarella and Tomato salad.
Audience members have the opportunity to see how the show is put together and taped, all while sitting at the edge of the St. Clair River outside the Maritime Center at Vantage Point. Plus they get to sample the finished recipes prepared by the chef.

What’s Cooking at the Market with Port Huron Hospital coincides with the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market at Vantage Point. All of the recipes prepared by chefs include at least two ingredients that may be purchased at the Market. Each week features a host from Port Huron Hospital and a chef from a downtown Port Huron Restaurant or organization.

The series of programs is co-sponsored by Port Huron Hospital, E&A Credit Union and Downtown Port Huron. It airs randomly on Comcast Cable Channel 6 Port Huron between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., weekdays. Click here for the recipes and/or to view the program on YouTube.
